So, we were overdue for a family vacation, but every time my husband mentioned it, I kind of put it off. I was not looking forward to traveling with two little ones again, on airplanes while they fussed and required constant attention, and the planes would be delayed and miss their connections, and the flight crew would be totally rude and uncaring. This has all happened before. One of my worst trips ever we slept in the Denver airport overnight on the floor with an infant and newly pregnant with another. I can't even begin to tell you just how miserable that trip was and how terrible people were to us. Anyway....
We booked a trip to Orlando, FL to visit family and to do the Disney and Universal thing. Sounds fun, but I just kept thinking about how much work it was going to be. But I had to go.
So what I decided to do was write out our trip as though it already happened and tell about just how perfect our vacation was. Here is what I scribbled down in a notebook one night before bed:
"We just returned this evening from a totally awesome vacation to FL. I am so happy and grateful that our trip to FL went spectacularly well! All of our flights both to and from FL were on time. We were treated very nicely by the flight staff. The flights were all smooth and comfortable. The kids were in good moods, happy and kept themselves entertained on the flights. I even got a chance to relax and rest on the flights. We got our luggage quickly and in perfect shape. When we got to FL, we got our rental car quickly and drove to our hotel. The hotel was wonderful! The rooms were clean and beautiful. The staff was wonderful and very responsive. The pool was great! The water was perfect. The weather was also perfect the whole time we were in FL! And even more wonderful was that everyone was in perfect health the entire trip. Everyone felt strong, healthy and full of energy! We visited Magic Kingdom and had a beautiful day. The lines were short and we got to see everything we wanted to, including Minnie Mouse. We also had a perfect day at Universal Orlando with my parents. We got to see all the attractions we wanted and the lines were quite short! We also spent part of a day at the water park. We all had so much fun! The weather was perfect and there were a lot of fun things we got to do together there. We also had a nice day visiting with all the family for Henry's birthday. The food was geat and everyone enjoyed themselves. We had a wonderful trip!"
That pretty much sums up how our trip really happened! Oh, there were a couple little bumps in the road, but nothing that ruined our trip. There actually was bad weather on one day, but we worked around it and we still managed to do everything we wanted to do while we were there. All our flights were on time, and the kids were great travelers. I even got an entire row to myself on one of the flights! And I did get a little reading done as well. How nice! Despite the fact that it was spring break, and we ended up going to Magic Kingdom the day after the bad rain storms along with everyone else and it was totally packed, most of the lines were reasonably short for the attractions we wanted to see. Go figure! They were even shorter at Universal the following day. Everyone stayed healthy and we all had a great time. Oh, and usually the night before we leave for a vacation I don't sleep well, and then in the morning I usually have an upset stomach. But this time, I slept well, felt rested and felt full of energy!
I truly believe that by writing this out and reading it several times before our trip and visualizing in my head the perfect trip that it helped me to manifest it. I'm sure that if I focused on everything going wrong, it very easily would have.
So next time you're dreading doing something, write out a script of exactly how you'd like it to go as though it already happened. Read it over many times. See if you don't manifest an experience more like what you desire than what you've gotten in the past.
